Skilled Worker Visa

The skilled worker visa has replaced the Tier 2 (General) work visa, which allows individuals to come to or remain in the UK to undertake an eligible job with an approved employer.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for a Skilled Worker visa you must:

– Work for a UK employer approved by the Home Office
– Have a certificate of sponsorship (Cos) from your employer with
information about the role you have been offered
– Do a job which is on the list of eligible occupations
– Get paid a minimum salary – amount depends on the type of work you
do and the date you got the CoS

Requirements for the Skilled Worker Visa:

– You must be over 18 years of age
– You must have a valid Certificate of Sponsorship for the job issued by your employer
– Your job must be listed on the UK employers list approved by the Home Office
– You must have sufficient funds to prove that you can support yourself in the UK (£1270 in your bank account)
– The Home Office needs to be content that you have a genuine job offer
– Your employer must have a sponsor licence
– You must be paid the minimum salary rate for the job you will be working: either £38,700 per year or the going rate for the type of work you will be doing, whichever is higher.
– You must prove you have good English language skills at the minimum requirement level of B1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale

Job Criteria Eligibility Requirement:

– Your job must be eligible for this visa (check using the 4-digit occupation code)
– You must have a job offer from a UK employer that is approved by the Home Office
– Must meet the salary requirements (£38,700 or the going rate)

Exceptions to the requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa:

1)If you received your first certificate of sponsorship (Cos) before 4 April 2024 then there are lower salary requirements if both of the following apply:

– You got your CoS before 4 April 2024
– You continually held one or more skilled worker visa since then The salary threshold drops to £29,000 or the lower going rate for your occupation if you make an application to extend or update your visa.

2) You can be paid between 70% and 90% of the standard going rate for your job if your salary is at least £30,960 per annum and you meet the following requirements:

– If you are under 26, studying or a recent graduate, or in professional training
– If you have a PhD in a STEM subject
– If you have a postdoctoral position in science or higher education

3) If you work in healthcare or education, then there are different salary requirements. The salary threshold drops to £23,200 or the job’s going rate, whichever is higher.

Required Documents

– Certificate of sponsorship reference number (obtained from employer)
– Proof of English language skills
– Valid passport or national identity card
– Your job title and annual salary
– Your job’s occupation code
– The name of your employer and their sponsor licence number (on the CoS)
